Glass Reef: What Shipping an iOS Game Is Teaching Me
July 30, 2026
Games expose engineering weakness quickly. You feel bad architecture as frame drops, jitter, and player confusion.
Current stack
- SwiftUI for UI and shell experience
- SpriteKit for gameplay runtime
- WidgetKit for lightweight companion surfaces
Lessons so far
- Keep gameplay loops testable in isolation
- Measure performance early on lower-power devices
- Separate content tuning from engine code paths
Why this project matters to me
It exercises a different part of engineering discipline: balancing feel, performance, and maintainability.
